Marine & Rail Museum

Located on the waterfront in the former Canadian National Railway depot, the Museum illustrates the time at the turn of the century when Owen Sound was a thriving and bustling port that served as the "Gateway to the West". Visit our extensive displays of artifacts, models, photographs and interactive stations related to the history of marine & rail transportation and associated area industries. Artifacts on exhibit include several scale models of the Great Lakes ships, marine and railway uniforms, house flags of marine transportation companies, a collection of charts, time-tables, books and photographs illustrating this vibrant era of this region's development. Our most popular attraction is the working "G" scale model train actively moving along tracks and trestles inside the Museum. School tours and group rates are available.

Billy Bishop Home & Museum

This house is the birthplace and childhood home of William Avery (Billy) Bishop, the legendary flying ace who won renown with the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force during the First World War. In 1917 and 1918, Bishop flew daring missions in his Nieuport and SE5 scout aircraft, and was credited with shooting down 72 enemy aircraft. He was awarded the Victoria Cross, and other medals for valour, becoming one of Canada's most decorated servicemen. Dedicated as a National Historic Site in September 2003, this house stands as a memorial to the small-town boy who became a celebrated aviation idol and remains today one of Canada's most recognized national heroes. There are permanent exhibits on his life and career, focusing on the military accomplishments of Bishop and other Canadian Aviators. Artifacts include uniforms, medals, photos, models and more.
